ABOUT DMGA

The DeKalb Master Gardener Association is just that — an  association of about 40 Master Gardeners and friends who live in DeKalb County, Georgia.  We formed the organization to foster education, service, and social events for interested Master Gardeners.  We are not the DeKalb County Cooperative Extension Service and we do not receive public funds.  For information about the DeKalb County Cooperative Extension Service, please visit website  www.dekalbextension.com

DMGA an Active GMGA Fall 2009 Conference Sponsor

Members of the DeKalb Master Gardener Association played a large role in putting on the Georgia Master Gardener Association 2009 Fall Conference on October 17.

Our DMGA Vice President, Mary, was a Co-Chairperson for the conference, which was jointly hosted by metro Atlanta Master Gardeners from Cobb, DeKalb, Gwinnett, and North Fulton Counties.  Mary was busy months before the conference with decisions about venues, speakers, publicity, registration, vendors, decor, and other details that most attendees take for granted.

Our DMGA President, Mike, served as the Master of Ceremonies for the day.  He was the voice of the conference, efficiently and smoothly transitioning between speaker introductions, last minute announcements, and awarding many door prizes.

Phil was in charge of vendors, with assistance from Linda.   Bert helped with vendor unloading and set-up.  Linda's company, The Garden Enthusiast, was one of 15 gardening-related vendors and a donor of door prizes.   Susan organized the Will Call area for stashing purchases, with help from Gail. Dick, who is also a GMGA Director, manned the GMGA merchandise table.

Stella and Maria were responsible for traffic, making sure that everyone found their way to the Busbee Conference Center on the Gwinnett Tech campus.   Loretta and Gail helped them direct traffic and welcome attendees at the entrances.  Even DMGA spouses made themselves helpful—sometimes loudly—like Tom the bell ringer.

The DMGA membership sponsored (and paid for) the Meet and Greet Social held the evening before the conference.  Sandra and Kelly were responsible for set-up and clean-up for the Meet and Greet event.  Dawn, Gail, Mike, Mary, Susan, Stella and Maria worked behind the scenes to arrange for food, blue ribbons, and signage.

The DeKalb Master Gardener Association is proud to have helped make this 30th Anniversary celebration of the Master Gardener program in Georgia a success.
